Frequently Asked Questions

General

  • Artist communications is a broad selection of services offered to support artists in managing their public image and the reception of their work. We use the phrase "artist communications" to focus on the priorities of artists as opposed to "gallery communications," which is the typical focus of marketing and communications teams run by galleries.

  • When an artist works with Artist Communications Agency, the artist is the client. This is unique in the art world where clients are typically understood to be collectors.

  • As an artist with representation, your most important relationship is with your gallery, and we are here to contribute to everyone's success.

While your gallery is focused on the immense task of producing exhibitions, coordinating studio visits with collectors and managing their client relationships, ACA can stand in your corner to ensure that all aspects of the marketing and communications processes are handled at or above industry standards.

Also, while galleries tend to focus their efforts on works that come through their door, ACA takes a comprehensive look at your career as an artist — past, present and future.

  • Yes. Even if you do not have gallery representation, we can still work together.

ACA has worked with artists at all different stages of their careers, and, for younger artists or artists who have not secured a commercial gallery, we can use our gallery experience to help you package your work in a way that would appeal to galleries. We are not in the business of connecting artists to galleries, but we can help you create a story about your practice that would give you a better chance of securing representation when the time is right for you.

  • Yes, we work with visual artists who practice in any medium.

  • While working directly with artists is our passion, we are proud of the work that we have done for institutional clients.

If you are an arts nonprofit or commercial gallery interested in working with ACA, please reach out and we are happy to discuss your needs.

How does it work?

  • We offer our services on an hourly basis or on retainer. The retainer begins to make sense once you decide that you need more than 10 hours of service per month.

  • We are very happy to provide references upon request. Set up a free consultation with us first, and we can talk through how we can best support your needs. And, if you are interested in moving forward, we are happy to share enthusiastic support from current and past clients.

  • Because every artist is different, we find that customized services make the most sense for our clients. Set up a free consultation with us to see if we are the right fit. We look forward to hearing from you.

  • We set up weekly, hourly standing meetings with our retainer clients and communicate by email and text at least every other day so that we can stay aligned on our projects and deliverables.

For our hourly clients, we set up bi-weekly calls to touch base on projects.
